Fleet Management System Provides Peace of Mind for Building Company
Having used the fleet management system from Fleetmatics since 2006, Capricorn, a building, shop fitting and commercial property maintenance company with ten vehicles had no hesitation in renewing its agreement for a further three years.
Capricorn has used vehicle tracking technology for around ten years but, before switching to the Fleetmatics fleet management system, it found the hardware to be very troublesome and the majority of providers to be difficult to do business with. “The Fleetmatics system works all the time,” says Paul Ennis, Partner in Capricorn. “And if we ever do have a query then the company is very reactive and a technician arrives very quickly”.
According to Paul Ennis, the main benefit to the business and to him personally is that the Fleetmatics system provides “Peace of Mind." He says, “We have ten vehicles with multiple users and we were having problems with things like parking tickets and speeding fines. When the documentation comes through a few weeks after an incident it is impossible to recall who was where and when”. The security aspect of having a GPS module in the vehicle is also very important to Paul as the company’s vans are kept at the employees’ houses as opposed to a central facility.
Like many users of Fleetmatics’ technology Paul accesses his information via a smart phone ‘app’ and from here he can see in an instant exactly where all the vehicles are. This real time positioning functionality provides many benefits to Capricorn. It improves customer service as Paul is able to keep customers accurately informed about the expected arrival time of his team; it allows the driver to find the most direct route to a job and, if they should ignore the system and use their own knowledge it allows them to compare it afterwards with the route the system would recommend; it also enhances productivity and provides evidence in case of a dispute about the length of time the company attended a site.
Paul Ennis concedes that Capricorn does not use the full power of the business intelligence information which the Fleetmatics system can provide although the company is contemplating monitoring fuel use more closely. But, the company has become so used to having the Fleetmatics system it uses it in a myriad of other situations to ensure the smooth running of the business. As Paul says “The Fleetmatics fleet tracking system is in our lives and we use it all the time, from checking where one of our employees is when they are running a small errand to monitoring the use of the vehicles by a dealer when they are in for servicing. I’d be gutted if we ever had to do without it.”
