Digital inputs: PTOs and more
Our GPS tracking units have multiple digital inputs, which gives us the ability to monitor vehicle components beside the engine (anything with a 24-volt change). With a single wire, we can monitor when a switch is on or off.
The Fleetmatics system can then generate separate reporting for these components. In addition, an icon displays on the Live Fleet screen to show the status of the input.
Our most common use for the digital inputs is to monitor PTO (power take-off) status. We do this by attaching our digital input to the PTO status light in the cab of the vehicle.
Some other examples of what we can monitor are:
-
Street Sweepers
-
Litter/recycling trucks with grabber arms
-
Service vehicles with booms and/or buckets
-
Bin wagons
-
Vehicle attached:
-
Donkey engines
-
High pressure washers
-
Vacuums
-
Sprayers
