4 Time-Management Tips

Posted by Andrew Mead

How many times this week have you cursed the fact that there are just not enough hours in the day? If it’s more than once, don’t worry, you’re not alone.

Between responding to email, managing timesheets and schedules, and tackling to-do lists, many of us feel like that pile of tasks just never seems to get any smaller. The good news, however, is that by following our top four tips, time-management no longer has to be as taxing…
Create a strategic schedule

The best thing you can do for yourself when it comes to making your daily tasks more manageable is setting aside 15 minutes at the start of each day to lay out what you need to accomplish. Being realistic is the most important aspect of this task, it’s no good starting the day already well aware that you have no chance of reaching the bottom of your to-do list.

Harness the right tools

When it comes to scheduling for your field based individuals, it pays to use an effective organisational tool to do most of the work for you. Using a centralised, simplified platform such as Fleetmatics WORK allows you to view employee availability and helps to quickly and easily assign jobs, without have to shuffle through multiple spreadsheets and schedules.

Stop multitasking

Multitasking is a myth; we humans can’t do it. Not only does it mean that not one job gets our full attention, but recent studies suggest that juggling and shifting between tasks can cost us as much as 40% of our productive time. *

It is much better to set aside a dedicated block of time for each task on your to-do list, focus on the job at hand, and then move on to the next.

A good night’s sleep has a tremendous bearing on how we work the following day. Not only does being well-rested help us avoid getting distracted, but it also improves decision making and helps to better our performance and boost productivity. Set aside a good chunk of time to sleep at night -- around seven to nine hours -- and you’ll be far better placed to manage your time the following day.
