Getting Over the Hump: Tips to Stay Focused Right Through to the End of the Week
For many of us, Wednesday morning is the toughest time of the whole week. We are already two days into the working week, time is at a premium, the to-do list doesn’t seem to have shrunk since Monday, and to top it all off, we’ve still got three days (at least) ahead of us before a well-deserved rest.
With that in mind, here are five helpful tips to help you get over the hump and stay focused right through to the end of the week…
Take time to relax
One of the main reasons for midweek burnout is that our social calendars are often just as busy as business ones – make Wednesday the exception. Skip the after work drinks, give the gym a wide berth and put some time aside to simply do nothing.
Chuck on a favourite album, watch that awful TV show that you’re too afraid to admit liking and just be – no phone, no email, no distractions. Get a good night’s rest and – BAM – you’ll be up raring to go on Thursday, ready to tackle the rest of the week.
Do something different
They say a change is as good as a rest, so if you’re struggling with the hump day blues, make Wednesday the day you do something a little different. If you usually head for a pub lunch on a Friday, why not switch it to Wednesday (or just do both!). Or if you usually tuck into a healthy – but not particularly fun – breakfast every day, make Wednesday the day of the Full English or indulgent Continental.
How you feel in the morning significantly affects how you feel throughout the rest of the working day, so make a point of starting it right and before you know it you’ll be right back on top of that to-do list.
Spending eight hours a day, every day, confined within the office walls is no good for anyone. So if sitting at your desk is driving you to distraction, get up and go for a walk. Not only do several studies show that as little as twenty 20 minutes outside boosts happiness, but breaks are crucial to productivity and can help you re-energise and re-focus.
