Since installing the Fleetmatics GPS vehicle tracking system into its fleet, Burflex Scaffolding Limited has improved customer service and productivity, whilst also reducing operational costs.
Based in Kingston-upon-Hull, the firm has, for over ten years, provided scaffolding services to customers across the Midlands and North of England, including Yorkshire, Lincolnshire, Northamptonshire and Teesside. Not only does the company have on-going contracts with some of the largest building and commercial companies in England, it also undertakes one-off and smaller-scale projects both in the public and private sectors. To successfully meet the diverse needs of its growing customer base and help better manage its 40 strong fleet, the scaffolding firm recently decided to implement GPS vehicle tracking system from Fleetmatics.
One way in which Fleetmatics has enhanced the company’s customer service is by providing accurate fleet status information which is helping it respond to customer enquiries faster. Prior to adopting the GPS tracking system, Burflex kept track of its vans by calling the drivers on their mobile phones to ensure that they reached customers on time - this was both time consuming and posed a potential danger to the drivers should they be en route. Thanks to the innovative Google Maps integration, the Fleetmatics GPS tracking system’s Live Fleet function can display each vehicle’s location on a map and accurately documents location against time to provide proof of service, should the customer request this information. It also allows the firm to keep customers up to date if there are delays to scheduled times for deliveries or site visits, without having to be in constant contact with the drivers. “Thanks to Fleetmatics, I am always able to verify if drivers have been punctual in reaching their job sites and whether they have completed their jobs on time,” comments Burflex’s Managing Director, Steve Cox.
Not only has Fleetmatics improved Burflex’s customer service, but it has also helped the firm to cut its operational costs. Burflex uses the Fleetmatics reports as a time sheet, which they use to ensure that each driver is paid according to his ignition on-times. “The drivers are aware of this,” explains Mr. Cox, “as a result, we have reduced our labour costs by approximately £1000 per week; the Fleetmatics GPS tracking system definitely pays off!”
Additionally, the Fleetmatics GPS vehicle tracking system has helped the company increase its productivity and profitability by tackling its fleet’s idling times. By identifying and reducing idling time, the firm is now able to complete more jobs in a day.
Commenting on a recent incident, Mr Cox said: “One of our drivers used to take an hour and a half to get to work and only 40 minutes to get back home, claiming that such a discrepancy was due to heavier traffic in the morning. Thanks to Fleetmatics, I was able to identify that the real reason why the driver took so long to reach the workplace was that he regularly stopped for breakfast en route!”
Thanks to Fleetmatics, Burflex Scaffolding can now pride itself on its efficiency and excellent customer service levels, and the firm’s employees have been encouraged to be more productive. “The detailed reports are used to optimise efficiency and, with each driver being accountable, the productivity of the business improved. This means that jobs are completed on time, as it’s easier to forecast how long each job should take: If it’s a two day job, it will take two days,” concludes Mr. Cox.
“Thanks to Fleetmatics, I am always able to verify if drivers have been punctual in reaching their job sites and whether they have completed their jobs on time”
